Welcome Home Parade
This past weekend, we hosted the inaugural “Welcome Home Bee Parade” for our hives. Dozens of neighbors showed up with noisemakers, musical instruments, and costumes, ready to celebrate Spring with the Bees!
Honey bees listen through vibrations, which makes drums and noise makers a beautiful way to communicate.
Starting at the corner of Folwell Park, neighbors came together to make wings, decorate wands, and get their faces painted. We then gathered together to march down Humboldt singing, reciting poetry, making sounds, and banging drums to alert the bees that we were coming.
Arriving at the entrance of the Story Garden, we collectively paused to set our intentions. Neighbors were asked to bring an offering that was meaningful to them. A special rock, seeds, water from the river, a token of cultural connection, or a piece of ancestral history. Bringing an offering of gratitude to the bees is our way of creating
